A double bill, featuring two acts with First Church members:
Blue Blanket Improv, featuring Steve Ketchpel, performs comic scenes improvised on-the-spot from audience suggestions. They'll throw languages, characters, genres, time, space, and the laws of physics into a blender and you'll be amazed at what comes out (and so will we)!
The Stragglyrs, featuring Chris Purdum, play rootsy, guitar-driven folk-rock and country rock with amazing harmony vocals. The Stragglyrs have released four albums featuring 60 original songs and have played hundreds of live shows in the Bay Area. The Stragglyrs will play after Blue Blanket Improv.
This show is appropriate for all ages, and will be best appreciated by those with a sense of humorous outrage and outrageous humor.
Light refreshments will be served. Proceeds go to the First Congregational Church

Summer Solstice Music Festival

The Summer Solstice Music Festival goes from 1p.m. to 7p.m. The Stragglyrs will play from 2:30-4:00. It will turn the Laurel neighborhood in Oakland into a virtual sound stage. Musicians will perform in commercial driveways/parking lots, in public spaces along MacArthur Boulevard and in select restaurants. It is modeled after Fete de la Musique, an event that occurs in over 100 cities worldwide where musicians of every age and every kind perform in public places. The festival is being produced by the Laurel Village Association, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the Laurel neighborhood, and sponsored by local businesses.
